Acquiring The Good Habits Of Regular Screenings   by Ethan Kalvin

So many times we ignore our Health and our body until there are signs and symptoms that we very simply just can’t ignore but waiting to address your health until you are seriously ill is not a wise move for many reasons. Failing to keep up with your health issues can cause you serious physical harm and in some cases even premature death, not to mention the fact that this is always the more costly way to handle things.

The ole saying of “unless you know, you don’t know” is very true when it comes to your health and all the more reason to understand the importance of keeping abreast of the state of your health. Regular check ups are essential to maintaining the highest quality of life, because this spot problems that could be serious. Adding tests and regular blood and urine screenings to your maintenance strategy, will detect internal information that could flag serious health issues that would otherwise be undetected. This is really important as we age into the later stages of life.

Even most employers and insurance companies are aware of the importance of regular physical exams and health screenings and it is for this reason that most companies will offer these service covered at a higher percentage if not at 100%. They want to encourage good health in an attempt to help lessen the costs of the more expensive treatment options that become a last ditch resort at the very end of an illness. Treating an illness in the very end stages is usually not only extremely costly but also is usually relatively ineffective very simply because it is too late.

Skepticism has been one of the many major blocks to annual exams and x-rays, until it is understood that these routine procedures will help detect early signs of major cancers, heart, lungs and every primary and secondary vital organ problems looming in the future. This simple testing of the body chemicals can give doctors a better picture of what is going on internally and if any major body system has to potential to cause health problems to the individual.

Your health is essential to your quality of life and therefore you should make it a priority. Investing a few hours annually toward health screenings which could potentially save your life is not only a wise investment but a necessary one. Many insurance companies offer these screenings free of charge so really what do you have to lose?

These companies intentionally create businesses in strategic locations, pursuing profits while remaining unabashedly Christian in their purpose. By establishing authentic businesses that employ local workers among the least-reached peoples of the world, they contribute to the economic health of the immediate community and also provide avenues for both physical and spiritual ministry.Based on a five-year study of groundbreaking enterprises like Pura Vida Coffee, this book offers keen analysis of the principles and practices of these companies. In an era where multinational corporations have global influence and impact, the Great Commission Company opens up new possibilities for missions-minded entrepreneurs and businesspeople who want to change the world to the glory of God.”

 Hereditary Diseases and Blood Transfusion

Hereditary Diseases and Blood Transfusion

$206

The discovery of the structure and function of DNA and the cracking of the genetic code have led to rapid advances in gene therapy and screening and diagnosis on a molecular basis. While initial therapy has been for patients with single gene defects, there is increasing interest in acquired disease, using the approach to assess or treat cancer. Virtually all tissues are being studied for genetic modification, including bone marrow and blood cells. The 19th International Symposium on Blood Transfusion focused on hereditary disease and blood transfusion, demonstrating the relevance and importance of transfusion medicine. Gene therapy, whether for short-term effect or long-term support, will increase the safety, dignity and quality of life for a group of patients with diseases, abnormalities and handicaps that have hitherto only been supported and palliated. Audience: Essential reading for haematologists, Blood Bank specialists, pharmaceutical companies and health care professionals.

Chapters: Quorn, Sanitarium Health Food Company, Alpro, Boca Burger, Amy’s Kitchen, Morningstar Farms, Gardenburger. Excerpt: Quorn is the leading brand of mycoprotein food product in the UK and Ireland. The mycoprotein used to produce Quorn is extracted from a fungus, Fusarium venenatum, which is grown in large fermentation vats. Quorn is produced as both a cooking ingredient and a range of ready meals. It is sold (largely in Europe but also in other parts of the world) as a health food and an alternative to meat, especially for vegetarians, earning the Vegetarian Society’s seal of approval. As it uses egg white as a binder, it is not a vegan food. When Quorn introduced into the United States in 2002, the Center for Science in the Public Interest expressed concerns over what it called “dangerous allergic reactions.” During the 1960s, it was predicted that by the 1980s there would be a shortage of protein-rich foods. In response to this, many research programmes were undertaken to use single-cell biomass as an animal feed. Contrary to the trend, J. Arthur Rank instructed the Rank Hovis McDougall (RHM) Research Centre to investigate converting starch (the waste product of cereal manufacturing undertaken by RHM) into a protein-rich food for human consumption. The filamentous fungus, or more precisely the mould, Fusarium venenatum, was discovered in 1967. After an extensive screening process, it was isolated as the best candidate. In 1980, RHM was given permission to sell mycoprotein for human consumption after a ten-year evaluation program. The initial retail product was produced in 1985 by Marlow Foods named after RHM’s headquarters in Marlow, Buckinghamshire a joint venture between RHM and Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) who provided a fermenter le… More:

Worried Sick: A Prescription for Health in an Overtreated America

Worried Sick: A Prescription for Health in an Overtreated America

$22

At a time when access to health care in the United States is being widely debated, Nortin Hadler argues that an even more important issue is being overlooked. Although necessary health care should be available to all who need it, he says, the current health-care debate assumes that everyone requires massive amounts of expensive care to stay healthy. Hadler urges that before we commit to paying for whatever pharmaceutical companies and the medical establishment tell us we need, American consumers need to adopt an attitude of skepticism and arm themselves with enough information to make some of their own decisions about what care is truly necessary. Each chapter of Worried Sick is an object lesson regarding the uses and abuses of a particular type of treatment, such as mammography, colorectal screening, statin drugs, or coronary stents. For consumers and medical professionals interested in understanding the scientific basis for Hadler’s arguments, each topical chapter has an accompanying source chapter in which Hadler discusses the medical literature and studies that inform his critique. According to Hadler, a major stumbling block to rational health-care policy in the United States is contention over the very concept of what constitutes good health. By learning to distinguish good medical advice from persuasive medical marketing, consumers can make better decisions about their personal health and use that wisdom to inform their perspectives on health-policy issues.
